At The Weyborne Estate, our goal is simple: to craft one of the finest English sparkling wines in the UK while caring for the special piece of land that makes it all possible. From our unique chalk, clay, and limestone soils to our mindful winemaking practices, every decision we make is guided by a commitment to preserving the environment for future generations.
NATURALLY GREEN TERROIR
Ideal site: our vineyard sits on high, sloping ground with excellent drainage—perfect for growing classic sparkling wine grape varieties. This natural elevation reduces frost risk and cuts the need for fuel-intensive frost protection.
Soil health: we regularly analyse our soils, use organic amendments where necessary, and rely on cover crops (like clover) to naturally release nutrients.
Biodiversity: we mulch pruned vine cuttings, encourage wildflower growth, and create habitats that support beneficial insects and local wildlife.
VINEYARD MANAGEMENT
Organic approach: we avoid herbicides and pesticides, instead using limited, biodegradable treatments like copper sulphate and sulphur when needed.
Hands-on care: careful pruning, shoot thinning, leaf pulling, and green harvesting minimise disease and reduce chemical sprays by up to 30%.
Smart monitoring: digital weather tools help us track vineyard conditions precisely, guiding us to use fewer resources—especially water.
Efficiency: short-volume sprayers save water, and well-maintained machinery lowers fuel consumption.
INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT
We nurture natural predators by encouraging “useful insects” through habitat management. Simple measures like carefully placed traps further reduce the need for chemical intervention.
PRESERVING WILDLIFE & WOODLANDS
Our land provides shelter for pheasants, deer, badgers, and birdlife. We plant trees, maintain wooded areas, and have introduced hives to support bee populations and overall biodiversity.
RESPONSIBLE WINEMAKING & PACKAGING
We entrust our winemaking and bottling to leading partners who share our environmental values and meet strict legal, hygiene and environmental standards. We also choose packaging with a low carbon footprint and regularly review supplier practices.
