OUR VINEYARD

Ours is a story steeped in woven words amid a verdant green landscape. Quintessentially English, at once timeless and modern, The Weyborne is waiting for you to discover it.

Located at the highest point of the South Downs National Park, The Weyborne Estate enjoys breathtaking views of a perfect English landscape. Green pastures, undulating hills and lush valleys stretch as far as the eye can see into a distant horizon. Here that the River Wey begins its journey as spring waters emerge from the ancient aquifer at the northern end of the Estate, bringing life to our gardens and vineyards.

"Situated at the highest point in the South Downs in Sussex, this up-and-coming estate was first planted by Nick Clarke in 2007 - an exceptional terroir for sparkling wine production."

THE VINEYARD

Est. 2007

Blackdown’s first vines were planted in 2007 and it soon became clear that this exceptional terroir, peaking at 190m above sea level, and the classic combination of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier would enable us to create exceptional single estate, sparkling wine using the traditional method, made famous by the Champagne region.

THE ESTATE

Established in 1600, the Weyborne Estate is washed with history, filled with stories of a bygone era and understated beauty nestled within the rolling hills of the South Downs. Built by the influential Yaldwyn family in 1640, the manor stands proud at the foot of the ancient River Wey.  Legends speak of King Edward VII, George Bernard Shaw and the great Alfred Lord Tennyson, who once drank from these waters while visiting our enchanting estate.

OUR WINES

2018 & 2019

At Weyborne, each vintage is shaped by nature’s hand—early warmth, summer’s intensity, and the quiet resilience of our vines. Our altitude offers protection, allowing the fruit to ripen with precision, even as the elements test the harvest. We work in harmony with the land, hand-selecting only the finest grapes to craft wines that capture the essence of our estate.

THE SOUTH DOWNS

National Park

The rolling landscapes of the South Downs are our home, where ancient chalk soils and a cool maritime climate create the perfect conditions for world-class sparkling wine. The estate’s elevation offers natural protection from frost, while long, sunlit days and steady coastal breezes nurture slow, refined ripening. This unique terroir—rich in history and shaped by nature—imparts a distinctive purity and elegance to our wines.

ALFRED LORD TENNYSON

Our Neighbour

Lord Tennyson, our historic neighbour, frequently visited this picturesque estate, which remains a living tribute to elegance and tradition. Our wines celebrate this rich heritage, merging the legacy of Tennyson with the grandeur of ancient memories and a homage to equestrian beauty. We honour tradition by preserving the unique charm of our South Downs home.
