Jamie Goode in Wine Anorak "Lovely depth and richness, with a sense of harmony"

The Weyborne Oriana Golden Spur Brut 2022 Sussex, England 12% alcohol. This is an early release from 2022, and it’s made in a more oxidative style, fermented in an open tank for the first part with 3% in barrel, then full malolactic fermentation. A blend of 46% Chardonnay, 53% Pinot Noir and 1% Pinot Meunier. This is a really rich style, with peach, ripe pear, baked apple and honey notes, as well as a fine spiciness. Lovely depth and richness to this wine, with a sense of harmony. There’s even some nuttiness here. In this richer style, it’s really lovely, and has a nice tapering finish. Not typical of English sparkling, but with a nice personality. It tastes of the gorgeously hot, languid English summer of 2022. 93/100
