Three New Wines, One Very Special Day at The Weyborne Estate

A September morning at The Weyborne Estate saw 60 guests from across the trade, press and media gather at Blackdown Park for a day of discovery, wine and a first look at what’s new at Weyborne.

The day began with glasses of Oriana Golden Spur before we set off across the Estate.

Our journey started at the horse statue, overlooking the Estate and the South Downs beyond.

From here, we headed into the vineyard, getting closer to the vines and the landscape that sits at the heart of everything we do at Weyborne.

With harvest just a couple of weeks away, there was also the chance to taste the grapes straight from the vine, a little preview of what is to come from this year’s vintage.

From the vineyard, we continued to The Bathing House, where three new wines were waiting to be unveiled.

Alongside the newly released Oriana 2022 Vintage Brut, we introduced the first two wines from our new limited-release range, Wayward No.1 Brut and Wayward No.1 Demi-Sec.

Wayward is a new chapter for The Weyborne Estate.

Oriana is our heart and soul. Wayward gives us the opportunity to explore another side of our South Downs personality, taking a different approach to our signature style and allowing us to do things a little differently.

The first Wayward wines come from the 2020 vintage, a year we remember for its warm growing season and exceptional fruit quality.

With just 1,000 individually numbered bottles of each wine available, these are truly limited releases, and it was particularly special to share the first taste with our guests here at the Estate.

The day also marked the official unveiling of Oriana 2022 Vintage Brut, following its earlier pre-release under the Golden Spur identity.

Three wines, three stories and three different expressions of what can be created here on the South Downs.

Our final stop was the Diddy Field vineyard viewing platform, where we ended the afternoon with glasses of Wayward No.1 Demi-Sec and views across the vines.

Standing amongst the vineyard, looking out across the landscape where these wines begin, felt like the perfect way to finish the day.

At The Weyborne Estate, we are always looking to what comes next. To explore, to experiment and to see what our vineyard can give us. It is part of what makes Wayward No.1 such a natural addition to The Weyborne’s story.

Our philosophy is simple:

To strive, to seek, to find and never to yield.

It is a mindset that runs through everything we do, from the vineyard and the wines we create to the ideas that shape the future of the estate.

From the chalk beneath our feet to the grapes in the glass, the afternoon was about sharing more than just our wines. It was a chance to share the place, the people and the ideas behind them.

With the launch of Wayward No.1 alongside the arrival of Oriana 2022, it feels like an exciting new chapter for The Weyborne Estate.

Oriana will always be at the heart of Weyborne.

But sometimes, it’s good to be a little Wayward.
